Raj Persaud

Musical Performer

Raj Persaud, 27, began his music career singing in Hindu faith-based spaces and performing in musical productions at Uniondale High School. His passion for music flourished from participating in various Marching, Jazz and Concert Bands in High School. As a presently enrolled student at St. John’s University, majoring in Public Relations and Marketing, Raj is a member of SJU SHRUTI, the University’s first and only South Asian Fusion A Cappella Group. In 2012, he joined Recklez Entertainment, an intersectional musical group that showcases a variety of Indo-Caribbean culture, including Tassa Drumming and Chutney and Soca music at cultural events locally, nationwide, & internationally.

In 2015, Persaud released his first Bollywood-American cover single, Unbreak My Dil, a mashup of Toni's Braxton’s Unbreak My Heart and Mere Mehbooba, from the 1997 critically acclaimed Indian Hindi-language musical drama, Pardes. With the debut of his first Chutney-Bollywood single, The Banka Refix which is Banka Sipaiya, Raj is a staple at many Queens-based charitable events, sharing his talents in support of social justice and humanitarian causes.
