Black lives matter “Pride is” campaign
In celebration of Pride Month 2020 and in tandem with the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement, the Caribbean Equality Project is reimagining our 2020 “Pride Is” social media campaign to amplify Caribbean LGBTQ+ diasporic visibility within the protests, initiatives, and other efforts in New York City. We know in the larger BLM movement, intersectionality is not often uplifted. This translates to Queer and Trans victims being completely ignored, and Caribbean LGBTQ+ survivors and other community members having their identities erased.
The power of this reimagined campaign is produced through empowering declarations of #ReclaimingOurPride by fellow Black and Brown (including our non-Black LatinX persons) Queer and Trans people in the Caribbean diaspora and throughout the Caribbean region, who are fearlessly working to dismantle systems of racism, anti-blackness, and LGBTQ-related phobias in the United States of America and around the world.
Campaign Goals:
Raise awareness about the experiences of Afro-Caribbean LGBTQ+ people in the diaspora and throughout the Caribbean region.
Feature Indo-Caribbean Queer and Trans solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement.
To highlight and uplift the voices of those who remain invisible and unable to disclose their authentic identity.
To encourage allies (of Afro-Caribbean people) inside and outside the LGBTQ+ community to help promote acceptance and solidarity in the Caribbean Community at large.
Galvanize community support to take action and healing through collective liberation.
THE CATEGORY IS … Racial Justice!
We invite our Caribbean LGBTQ+ family and allies to participate in our #PrideIs campaign in celebration of #Pride2O2O & #BlackLivesMatter!
You may choose one of three questions:
As a Queer or TGNC Caribbean person, what does pride mean to you?
As an Indo-Caribbean Queer or Trans person, how do you support the fight for #BlackLivesMatter?
As an ally, how do you support the fight for LGBQT+ equality and racial justice?
