Premika Leo

Choreographer, Actor, & Dance Archivist

Premika Leo (she/her )is an International choreographer, actor, musician, and dance archivist. She has taught at the Geetika Dance Company in Toronto for almost two decades, performing primarily in Canada, the United States, The Bahamas, and Guyana, and has choreographed for significant events such as the University of West Indies Benefit Awards, and just recently for Guyana’s Deep Jale and Diwali Motorcade. She has been featured in a few television series, such as in DC Comic’s “Titans” and in commercials, with some examples being World Literacy, the Toronto Raptors, and FIFA. Premika was also asked to choreograph for the movie “You’re Smart,” where she plays the lead role. Premika wrote and produced the film “Sugar Free,” which tackles subjects of Queer identity for neurodivergent BIPOC adults in North America through experimental and psychedelic storytelling.

Specializing in Odissi, Nagara, and Aerial Cirque, Premika archives work regarding disappearing forms of Guyanese folk dance and its histories. She regularly collaborates with Ryan Persadie, and the duo has gone on to co-produce “GYAL” (2022) and published work about the history of Nagara dance and erotic autonomy in the Caribbean.
