COVID-19 mental health services
Providing mutual aid, healing, and building Caribbean LGBTQ+ community power in NYC during COVID-19.
We’re thinking about your mental health, which includes stress, anxiety, depression, and problems with emotions. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in NYC, the Caribbean Equality Project has expanded it's Healing Justice work to meet the emotional needs of the Caribbean LGBTQ+ community in NYC. This includes offering FREE culturally competent Remote Mental Health Services.
During the past 5 years, we have seen and learned that our vulnerable community members have always been essential and frontline workers. Our documented and undocumented black and brown LGBTQ+ community members work in the restaurants, grocery stores, nightlife industries, construction, and other labor-intensive jobs that have been impacted by the current shelter-in-place order. These workers are the backbone of our beloved City, and are currently experiencing a disproportionately higher level of emotional and financial stress. Many are confined alone in isolation, trapped at home with abusive family members, and some do not even have the means and ways to Stay Home during a state of national emergency.
As part of our Healing Justice work, CEP’s 5-year running Unchained: Caribbean LGBTQ+ Immigrant Support Group program, has been transformed into a bi-weekly virtual space. Through this uncertain time of physical and social distancing, we are providing a safe space to affirm the unique experiences and identities of LGBTQ+ immigrants from the Caribbean. We do so in order to combat discrimination and hate violence. To join us, RSVP here: http://bit.ly/RSVP_Unchained
The coronavirus is impacting all aspects of our lives, including our physical and mental health. We acknowledge these are stressful times and we’re here to listen. Counseling is being offered every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11 am to 4 pm through video conferencing, and via phone by Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist, Shane M. Tull.
If you're looking for emotional support, please email info@CaribbeanEqualityProject.org or fill out this form with your information.
