On Saturday, February 23, 2019, the Caribbean Equality Project is hosting its 4th annual Love is L.O.V.E.: Living Our Values Equally benefit, a celebration of Queer Caribbean L.O.V.E. and liberations at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, starting at 6 PM in Queens, NY.

FEATURING

The evening will feature a reading from I Even Regret Night: Holi Songs of Demerara by award-winning Indo-Caribbean poet Rajiv Mohabir and accompanied by Pratima Doobay for a historic musical collaboration. Our program also includes a premier film screening of “The Book of Jasmine”, curated by Caribbean film enthusiast, Romola Lucas, written and directed by Melanie Grant.

This dynamic event will showcase the intersections of LGBTQ identities, culture and Caribbeaness through migrant storytelling, poetry, film, trans activism, HIV and immigrant education, and performing arts. Including, a ballet performance by the Bloodline Dance Theatre titled “Donnys Love.” The ballet features the music of the late great Donny Hathaway and illustrates the freedom of loving without the notion of sexual identity. The piece is choreographed by Lamont Joseph and director, Melvin blak.

We will also be joined by representatives from the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and the NYC Commission on Human Rights, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with our esteemed speakers’ and a closing cultural performance by the Taranng Dance Troupe. LEARN MORE…
