Little Guyana Votes Festival 2022
To commemorate National Voter Education Week 2022, the Caribbean Equality Project is hosting the 2nd annual "Little Guyana Votes Festival," a Diwali-inspired culturally-responsive neighborhood Get Out the Vote (GOTV) action to educate voters on the 2022 November election. The voter outreach community event is a program of the organization’s “Mash-Up De Vote” campaign, which features tabling to distribute voter resources, a press conference, FREE Diwali treats, and Diya giveaways to encourage voter participation in Richmond Hill, Queens.
Little Guyana is home to the largest South Asian and Indo-Caribbean populations- one of the most under-resourced immigrant communities in New York City. The community event will occur on Lefferts Blvd between Liberty Ave and 103rd Ave. The unique open street space allows local community-based organizations to share resources, city agencies to provide on-site social services, and community members to access housing, immigration, economic, and health information, such as COVID-19 testing and vaccine information.
