Kishi Chad Martin (he/him) was born in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents from Jamaica and the United Kingdom. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, he devoted his early years to dance, student council, cultural events, and sickle cell disease awareness.
During college, he began volunteering with and supporting several LGBTQ+ organizations in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. These opportunities grew to nine years of community outreach for sexual health and mental wellness.
Some of his long-term goals include counseling for substance use and trauma and greater visibility and rights for LGBTQIA+ individuals of Caribbean background.
Martin is a volunteer South Florida Organizer with the Caribbean Equality Project. In 2022, he co-organized "Free Up Yuhself," a Queer Caribbean cultural disruption through a panel discussion, storytelling, performances, music, and food at Hunters Nightclub Wilton Manors, Florida. The event was the first of its kind, which convened and celebrated the culturally and ethnically diverse Caribbean queer and trans community in South Florida.
